Time to hear the people sing. After almost nine months of anticipation, following the classy cast announcement event all the way back in October 2013, the beloved musical is finally ready for its official opening night.

A media preview this morning allowed a sneak peek of the new production. Producer Michael Cassel introduced the event.

Premier Denis Napthine spoke of Victoria’s gratitude to Sir Cameron Mackintosh for the extraordinary number of performances of his productions seen in Melbourne. Napthine also spoke with pride of the full complement of musicals currently playing in Melbourne: The King and I at Princess Theatre, Wicked at Regent Theatre and Rocky Horror Show at Comedy Theatre.

Sir Cameron Mackintosh spoke of Melbourne as a second home, and how proud he was to see the fully completed new production of Les Misérables open here only a couple of months after opening on Broadway. He sees the current of established and new performers as having just as bright a future as the cast of the original Australian production.
